Two things to check out, please.

First of all, this. I admit that I am completely uninformed about the situation in Iran by now, but if getting this information out there can help anyone there, then I want to do it.

Second, [info]jennifer linked to this awhile ago and I flaked on passing it on, but it's still active - Marrowthon, which is currently sending out free kits to people who want to join the registry to be potential marrow donors. This is something else I know next to nothing about, but again, if there are people I can help by getting this information out(and registering myself, which I just did), then I want to do it.

♥♡♥♡♥♡ THE ROLEPLAY LOVE MEME ♥♡♥♡♥♡

Also, uh, why did no one tell me I fucked up the HTML of my HMD post >> I fixed that, so if anyone has any late crit, you can just drop down a couple entries in my journal for that one. (Assuming the post didn't fill up, I don't know.)

This is horrible.

If there's anything you can do to help this girl and her family - even if it's just reposting this link on your own journal - please do so.

EDIT: This is also horrible, but in a totally different way. You can find addresses to which to direct your (I would hope inevitable and immediate) complaints and concerns here. If you don't find the idea of radio shock jocks advocating violence and hate against children mind-bogglingly reprehensible, then...why are you on my flist again?

The How's My Driving? Meme

I'm sick right now, so forgive me if I don't reply to yours. ^^ (Most of the people on my flist, I don't have any crit for anyway...you're all too goddamn awesome.) Mostly just tossing this up in case anyone has any crit they want to throw my way, although I'd hope people can approach me anytime for that...?

Small note

Everyone's posting to the RP Love meme, except me because honestly I never have time to fill them out for all of my friends so I feel guilty. :< So I just wanted to say, here, publicly, that YOU ARE ALL AWESOME. That's why I love you~ AND I DON'T WANT TO HEAR ANY ARGUMENTS.

ICON RELATED.

Okay, so [info]theladyfeylene directed me to this site called Swagbucks - basically, it's a search engine like Google, only in exchange for using it, you earn points towards winning stuff like gift cards and things. (There's a lot more too, like iPhones and air miles and collectibles, but you're probably more likely to get gift cards just because things like electronics take a lot of points.) Still, points are pretty easy to earn, and aside from making a free account there, you don't actually have to do anything to earn the points except to use them whenever you'd normally hit up Google. And they use some Google and Ask.com results, so it's not much of a step down, either.

Link is here: http://swagbucks.com/?cmd=sb-register&rb=395971

Seems like a pretty nice setup, if only because you can earn stuff for free by using a search engine, and I've discovered just today that I use search engines even more than I was aware of(because it does require you to retrain yourself not to reach for Google automatically - or you could download their Firefox toolbar). If you're interested, sign up; it's easy enough.

WHAT MEMBER OF MY PARTY ARE YOU? MEME

I don't normally do memes much, but I'm a sucker for RPG-related things. ♥

Quick meme~

Put your MP3 player on shuffle, and write down the first line of the first twenty songs. Post the poem that results. The first line of the twenty-first is the title.

If There Was No Sunshine

And if your heart stops beating
This world is cold
Think about the love inside
I always needed time on my own

Pain without love
Under the snow
When clouds above you
Anywhere you go

In this desert land
Summer has come and past
I'm coming out of my cage
From underneath the trees

Steel your soul for a second chance
I never said I'd lie and wait forever
Catch your breath
This is me for forever

This actually came out...pretty well. o_O

EDIT: Since I already did one meme, I'll toss out one more.

I wanted just one thing.

Just one goddamned thing. One present after a shitty year.

But, you know, so much for that.

And thanks for trying, universe, but a chronic gastrointestinal disorder is not, in fact, an acceptable runner-up prize. Having to pay for that instead of my present is actually the polar opposite of ideal.

So! Some people I talked to last night might recall that I was excited about the Gears of War 2 midnight release.

Well, I didn't actually get to play it. Basically, my brother and his friend invited me to play with them, then disinvited me when they found someone they liked better to take my place in the party. Because, you know, I'm just a placeholder until a real person comes along.

I am so sick and tired of being treated like a second-class citizen by my own brother. I don't even care so much that his friend is a thoughtless jackass, because this is hardly news to me; he's done this to me before, with different games. But pulling it with a huge game like Gears 2, on launch day? Fuck you. But it was more my brother's behavior that pissed me off - he was the one who immediately suggested I be the one who sit on the sidelines, and when I expressed my extreme disapproval he suggested that we alternate rounds. So, let's see...I'd be forced to play on his profile, with his settings, earning him points and achievements, in a party made up entirely of guys who'd tried to edge me out and obviously didn't care if I played or not? That sounds swell! And when I suggested that he and I play together until the party opened up enough for both of us, he was appalled - because, you know, it's fine if I have to miss the party, but what had he ever done to deserve such a fate?

Fuck them both. My company is worth a little bit more than that. I'm not playing the game with either of them now - if I wasn't good enough for them on launch day, I'm not ever going to be good enough for them, clearly. They can find someone else to fill out their party when there's no one better around.

Obligatory political entry.

Since you ask("Wait," I hear you say, "did I ask?"), there is a reason that I'm not trumpeting Obama's victory from the rooftops, despite having been a rather liberal Democrat all my life and despite my genuine joy over his having won the election, not to mention my pleasure at, for the first time, having a hand in getting a president elected rather than voting for the guy that lost. It is because, four years ago, I recall the agony of being a Democrat and reading the few journals on my flist who celebrated Bush's victory when I was smarting from the candidate I had supported losing and was looking at four (more) years of being led by a man I didn't like or support. It's harsh enough to see something or someone you support fail without having to choke down people doing victory laps around the grave of your hopes. Therefore, out of respect to the Republicans on my flist who supported McCain or non-Obama options - I assume I have some - I'm not going to make it any harder for them to stomach the results of this election by crowing over the results.

That said, though, I feel that this election is fascinating and pretty damned cool regardless of what party you happen to be in. History was made last night; a black man has been voted into the highest office of our country for the first time since we became a country. There are people alive today who, growing up, would never have believed it could be a possibility. Realizing that we will be able to talk to our grandchildren when we're all old and grey about how we saw the first black man elected president elicits the same sort of awe in me that I occasionally feel when, holding my iPod Nano, I recall carefully navigating a turntable as a five-year-old to play a Fraggle Rock record repeatedly - or, when typing things like this on the Internet, I recall not just a life before there was an Internet, but actually playing with my parents' typewriter. Historical changes are being made in our lifetimes, some of which we fail to even realize until we step back and look at where we used to be. In any case, I hope that most Republicans feel the same sense of wonder I do at how far we've come(rather than being like my mother's coworker who's been moaning about how the world is ending and why can't we go back to the good old days and Obama means having to kiss the free world goodbye), and that it tempers their dissatisfaction somewhat to know that they've witnessed a phenomenon.

Anyway, since I almost never discuss politics or anything particularly deep on LJ, I thought I'd trot out my beliefs here so that anyone who's wondering where I stand can see them. It's not something I really discuss much, and I realize that lots of my friends have no idea what I think about these sorts of things, so I figure I'd actually mention them for once and then leave it at that. I'm not really open to argument about them; I consider politics to be a bit like religion in that what you believe is your business, and what I believe is my business, and so long as neither of us tries to force those beliefs on other people, everything is cool.

I BELIEVE )

I can't think of any other big issues to mention, but if anyone has any and they're curious to know what I think, they can ask me. Similarly, if you'd like to discuss anything with me, you're welcome to do that, too, but understand that I didn't post my views like this because I'm looking for anyone to change them. I don't mind intelligent debate or a discussion of why I believe the things I do, but I do demand the respect for what I believe that I try to show everyone else.

That said, here's a funny picture.
